I finished R. LeBeaux’s latest novel with a large, goofy smile on my face. CUTE is a rollicking, hilarious, sad, shocking, rumbustious saga that will touch the heart of anyone who has ever loved, lost and hoped to love again. Loaded with endearing characters and clever plot twists, the story navigates expertly between the shoals of slapstick and melodrama, leaving in its wake a running stream of belly laughs, chuckles and throat lumps. This novel is compulsively readable and vastly entertaining, conveying an honest realism seldom found in today’s literary fiction. Highly recommended! R. LeBeaux has a unique ability to convey emotional realism when describing intimate sexual encounters and gut-wrenching personal conflicts. This ability is amply demonstrated in his latest novel, CUTE, a compellingly realistic story of one man’s lifelong quest for redemption and wisdom. Chapters, like “Groin Up,” had me nearly rolling on the floor with laughter, while others elicited tears with their sad tales of emotional loss and sexual abuse. CUTE delivers a profound emotional whack both in the heart and the funny bone. An incredible read! Uncannily realistic and sexually frank, R. LeBeaux’s new novel, CUTE, is both hilarious and spiritually uplifting. It follows Tim Jacoby from a childhood of sexual abuse and promiscuity, through an adulthood of self-imposed exile filled with regret and struggle. Redemption never seems to be within reach, until his life is changed dramatically by Janie, a clever and creative nurse, whose novel version of sex therapy rescues him from the brink of death. The story culminates in a nerve-wracking, funny and emotionally healing plot twist no reader could possibly foresee. At times almost magical in its ability to depict the pitfalls of unrestrained sexual behavior, this novel is a must read for anyone with a smidgen of love and regret in their past. |
