How to determine
which transformer is right for you
Every electrical
device or appliance uses electrical voltage and current in varying proportions
to produce power. Each device is rated for the amount of power it consumes as
it works. This power is measured in WATTS.
Wattage specifications are listed on a plate or label attached to the device.
If you are going to be operating a number of different devices at the same time,
add up the wattage values for each, to get the total power requirement. Add in
another 30 percent, as a safety buffer for surge pulses.
This final figure
is equal to the POWER
CAPACITY of
the transformer/converter you will need as listed in the first column. Remember,
it's better to use a transformer with a little too much capacity, than to jeopardize
your appliances with one that's too small. To operate any device, the CORRECT
VOLTAGE must be applied. This is the job of the converter/transformer.
Find out what the requirements are for the country and/or region you plan to visit
and choose the transformer's voltage rating accordingly.
